Infinite Stairs
The meaning of life
Is meaningless itself
an infinite staircase
That wanders,
circles and rises
more stops than steps
flaws than floors
Nothing is perfect
faulty, dirty, greedy
Not where to start
where or when to finish
creaky wood, existing loudly
paws on marble, hiding
To find yourself
you create him or her or them
or surrender to the system
neither is wrong,
neither is freedom
meaning is limited
life is edited
Everyone has their summit
step by step
none know the sum of it
It’s okay to leave,
and be left behind
The stops we make
define us, refine us
design us and confine us
Some steps are dark
some are too bright
some are just right
perfection is sleight
a comfort in make up
We chase echoes
rush on some steps
We map the voices
drag on others
Just stories to tell
We trip, we fall
We hurt and break
But it is never enough
Infinity is possibility
maybe it’s a void, uncertainty
Always vulnerability
stares saying you are slow
dares that pull you close
peers begging for patience
Sometimes there’s banisters
Peace of mind
More often there’s none
We are afraid
some people get a lift
others need to be lifted
We are not the same
That was never a shame
It’s okay to sit on the steps
Have a drink with a friend
But there’s infinity out there
And no one lives on the stairs
